Motivation Monday ~ Getting Through The Chaos

Motivational Monday ~ Chaotic Times Reconstructed

Chaotic times don’t have to lead to less z’s, insomnia, increased cortisol levels and stress. When things start to get crazy, we start to worry more about all that we have to do and the idea of not getting it all done. This becomes a continuous downward spiral causing us to lose focus on the task(s) at hand and we find ourselves spending our limited time micromanaging all the nonessential items on our lists to determine how they will all fit in our daily lives. Instead of doing the “Must do’s” and taking it one step at a time only scheduling the essentials based on due dates, we are lost in our thoughts until we find ourselves blank-faced and lost. If this sounds familiar, you now can relax knowing you are not the only one out there experiencing this. We can choose to become overwhelmed and frustrated during stressful time or we can reconstruct how we see the situation and stop ourselves from getting frantic and breathing into a paper bag.

Today, we ask you to think about how you react when your to-do list starts to get out of hand and what the overall outcome is. Once you think about how you initially react and the end result, you might discover that all the worrying and added panic didn’t help you accomplish what you needed to do and most likely everything turned out just fine. Keeping in mind the only things we can control in life are our body, mind and focus of attention, let us use this to our advantage when the going gets tough. We challenge you to approach your stress thinking about your focus of attention and channel your thoughts to the present time and the task at hand. Imagine you only have one thing to do at a time and that the other items on your list don’t exist. Once you have completed one thing, move to the next. You must make sure to prioritize your list so you get the most important items done first and in a timely fashion. The extra worrying and micromapping only takes from the crucial time you need to do the things on your list. We hope you try during the week and see if it helps you remain calm during the more hectic times.
